The 2020 Win-E-Mac School District Spelling Bee was held at 8:45 on Tuesday, January 14th in the Arts & Events Center. Sixteen spellers–four each from fifth through eighth grades–were selected to compete. In the end, Jordyn Halstad, a sixth grader, was the champion and will be going on to compete at the Regional Spelling Bee on Wednesday, February 5th, 2020 at Northland Community and Technical College in Thief River Falls.
Taking second place was Emelia Boianoff from seventh grade. Tied for third place were Evsevy Erofeeff (7th) and Caleb Green (8th). In all, 133 words were used in the competition over the course of 17 official rounds (plus a practice round). The championship word was “chimney”.
