Dear parents and guardians,
In an effort to help provide guidance during our school reopening plan, attached are a few resources for you to use regarding your family’s health and COVID-19:
- Making an Emergency Plan
- ‘Is It COVID-19’ Comparison Chart
- COVID-19 Decision Tree for People from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH)
- Narratives for the COVID-19 Decision Tree
It is the school’s expectation that our families will be self-monitoring at home for signs and symptoms of COVID-19, and if any are present, that your student will remain home with you until they are well or able to return based off of the MDH COVID-19 Decision Tree. Each day before your student(s) leaves for school, we ask that you take a temperature and check for any symptoms on the ‘COVID-19 Decision Tree for People in Schools, Youth, and Child Care Programs’. If your child has a fever over 100.0 F, they need to stay home per school policy, until they have been fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medications.
Temperatures will be taken by a touchless thermometer when students enter the bus and also at the door of the school. If your student has a temperature of 100.0 F or above, they will be asked to step off the bus and return to their home. Students who have a temperature at the school door of 100.0 F or above will be taken to our “sick room” for further investigation by our health staff.
If your child is home for COVID-19 related symptoms or testing, then you need to follow the “Decision Tree” included from MDH. This is the guideline Health Services will be using to determine if students and/or staff need to be sent home throughout the day. This is also how the school will determine a “return date” for your student.
If your child becomes ill during the school day, it is imperative that they are picked up quickly. We have limited isolation space for ill students/staff and contamination is a strong concern. Students who are being isolated will need to be picked up from door 14, which are the Fitness Center doors.
If we all work together, we can have a safe and productive school year. Please do not hesitate to contact the school with questions or concerns. If you have COVID-19 questions for the Minnesota Department of Health, the contact email is health.covid19@state.mn.us.
