Please join us in the Arts & Event Center on Sunday, January 23rd at 2:00 p.m. for two One-Act Play performances from Win-E-Mac and Fosston! Win-E-Mac, performing first, will present “…And Others” by Dennis Bush. Here is a synopsis:
A journey through the mind and memory of Amanda, a 26-year-old woman, …and others explores the dissociative identity disorder (multiple personality syndrome) that resulted from a trauma she suffered at thirteen. Seven personas – female and male – struggle for control. With a mix of terrifying intensity, quirky humor, and heartbreaking revelations, this thirty-minute one-act play will give actors challenging roles to play, directors an opportunity for creative staging, and will have audiences on the edge of their seats.
Fosston, performing second, will present “We Are the Sea” by Laura Lundgren Smith. Here is a synopsis:
Norah, Una, and Iseult set sail from Ireland to escape the ravages of hunger, only to find a new set of dangers on their ocean voyage. The so-called “coffin ships” are full of illness, squalor, and grief, and the passengers can rely only on one another and their memories for comfort. When a cruel, angry sailor refuses to show them mercy, it seems like even their stories might be lost. But they don’t know that the sea that swirls around the ship is listening. The sea remembers everything. And the sea demands justice. A poetic and striking historical drama with a hypnotic ocean chorus.
Win-E-Mac and Fosston, who normally compete against each other at sub-sections, will actually perform in different sub-sections this year. Fosston will compete on Thursday, January 27th in Crookston. Win-E-Mac will complete on Friday, January 28th in Oklee. Win-E-Mac is the last show to compete that evening, starting at 7:30 p.m. The public is welcome to come to watch the schools compete at contests; just make sure that you arrive early because the doors will be locked when the show begins.
Hope to see you on Sunday, and good luck to both groups at sub-sections!
